Kinesio Taping Video — Licensed Massage Therapist in Carrollton, TX
Kinesio® Taping is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. When skillfully applied by a trained practitioner to specific structures with a particular amount of stretch on the tape, different effects can be achieved. These effects include: muscle inhibition, muscle facilitation, increased circulation, increased lymphatic drainage (to reduce swelling), pain relief, functional correction, and increased range of motion.
This taping method was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase over 25 years ago in Japan. Since then, Kinesio® Taping has become the gold standard for therapeutic and rehabilitative taping. This proprietary method of taping uses a uniquely designed and patented all-cotton, latex-free tape for treatment of muscular disorders, lymphedema, and other structural problems--and has been shown to be effective in relieving arthritic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pain, low back pain, muscle spasms, neck pain, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff injury, tennis or golfer's elbow, whiplash, and other clinical conditions.
This technique is widely used by professional sports teams—such as half all NFL football teams, two thirds of MLB baseball teams, and one third all of NBA basketball teams.
How is Kinesio® Tape Applied?
Pre-event—for athletes or other sports enthusiasts—tape can be applied to prevent cramping or over-contraction (overuse of muscles). In this case, the tape is applied from the muscle's ending (insertion) point to its origin (where it begins) to provide added support and prevent event-related injuries.
Post-injury—to reduce or eliminate pain by retraining a muscle—tape can be applied as a single strip “I”, or in the shapes of an "X" or "Y", depending on the shape and size of the targeted muscles. The basic principle of therapeutic taping for weakened muscles is to wrap the tape around the affected muscles--start where the muscle begins (its origin), continuing along the muscle, finishing where the muscle ends (its insertion point). As the muscle fibers contract, Kinesio® Tex Tape supports the contraction by stimulating the skin and pulling the muscle back towards the point of origin.
What About Sports Massage?
During physical activity—especially strenuous exertion—muscle tension builds up in the body’s soft tissues. As a result of overextension or overuse, minor injuries and lesions occur in these tissues that can cause a great deal of pain, resulting in reduced athletic performance. Sports Massage helps alleviate pain and prevent injuries that greatly affect flexibility, mobility, response time, and overall performance.
As a therapist trained in Sports Massage, my goal is to aid athletes in improving and maintaining full range of motion and muscle flexibility, boosting performance, preventing injuries, and extending the overall life of their sporting careers.
